FUNCTIONAL FAMILY MEDICINE DOCTOR

Dr. Castel Santana, MD/CFMP, known to his patients as Dr. Cas, is a board-certified family medicine doctor and Certified Functional Medicine Practitioner. During his career, he has seen the power of healthy, happy communities and has dedicated his career to creating that – one patient at a time.

During his time in college, Dr. Cas developed a passion for medicine and a desire to heal others. This led him down his next path: attending medical school in St. Maarten, National Alliance.

Dr. Cas’ studies in medical school spurred an even a deeper passion of family medicine. He was accepted to the University of Maryland, where he was able to focus on developing his 5 Pillars of Health and Wellness©. (Maryland is also where he found the love of his life and the person who keeps him grounded: his wife, Courtney).

As his medical experience progressed, Dr. Cas became more and more aware that something critical was missing in the treatment of patients: Time. Respect. And listening. At the same time, his desire to provide a different – and better – level of health care increased.

After graduating residency, Dr. Cas began delivering his unique model of health care to patients, blending the best of integrative and functional medicine that focuses on whole body wellness and finding each individual’s pathway to optimal living. He also completed the requirements to become a Certified Functional Medicine Practitioner. Dr. Cas’ practice is based in Edmond, Oklahoma, where he works with patients across the country.

DR. CAS’ MISSION AND VISION

Dr. Cas’ mission is to help his patients find and follow their individual pathway to optimal living through evidence-based solutions and his 5 Pillars of Health and Wellness©. His vision is to help build healthier communities, which in turn creates happier and more prosperous societies.

DR. CAS’ APPROACH TO WELLNESS

Dr. Cas doesn’t just specialize in integrative and functional medicine for his patients. He incorporates the same practices he recommends into his own life, so he can enjoy the same health benefits he is helping his patients achieve. Dr. Cas focuses on mitigating inflammation, which is the cause of most chronic disease, and improving cellular health. His approach blends:

  • Integrative medicine, an approach to wellness that incorporates complementary and alternative medicine in tandem with more traditional allopathic diagnosis and treatment methods, and
  • Functional medicine, which seeks to improve health at the cellular level.

Utilizing the latest, evidence-based medical science and technology, Dr. Cas takes the guesswork out of the diagnostic process, allowing him to efficiently and accurately diagnose and recommend treatments specific to each of his patients.

Dr. Cas’ treatments are centered around his 5 Pillars of Health and Wellness©:

With this approach, Dr. Cas helps his patients improve a wide variety of symptoms, including fatigue, bloating, diarrhea, constipation, insomnia, hormonal imbalances, joint pain, foggy brain, weight instability and mood.

THE PATIENT EXPERIENCE

Dr. Cas begins each new patient relationship by gathering an in-depth history, finding where the person lived throughout their life, what possible toxins the person has been in contact with, stressful events that could have set off chronic disease, sleep habits, dietary habits, exercise habits, vitamin and supplement use, and gut health.

While each patient is unique, a typical treatment plan begins by identifying and addressing inflammation, using various tests including an in-depth lab panel, food intolerance test and gut microbiome test.

The next stage of treatment typically involves cellular detoxification to rid the body of toxins. Throughout this process, Dr. Cas checks in with patients regularly to assess progress.

Throughout his years of experience using this approach, Dr. Cas has seen the majority of his patients improve dramatically, with more energy, better sleep, better sex, better moods, increased productivity, healthy weight management, and the ability to transition off many medications.

Once his patients have met their initial health goals, Dr. Cas believes in ongoing, proactive maintenance care, which will mitigate chronic disease and improve quality of life for the long term.

THE DR. CAS DIFFERENCE

Dr. Cas strives to make his practice more than just another doctor’s office. He aims to create a place where his patients feel comfortable and listened to. He is committed to giving his patients the time they need to fully discuss their problems and concerns, and explore and implement the right solution.

When it comes to prescribing medications, Dr. Cas believes in finding a balance as a minimalist and a realist. Sometimes medications are necessary, but Dr. Cas understands there are often other effective approaches, and he explores those options extensively with his patients to find the best solution.
