5 PILLARS OF HEALTH

MEDICAL WELLNESS

Dr. Cas has spent his career developing, refining and implementing his 5 Pillars of Health and Wellness© to help guide his patients to their optimal well-being.

THE IMPORTANCE OF MEDICAL WELLNESS

Dr. Cas believes that medical fitness is a critical part of overall well-being. Managing medical conditions – or preventing them in the first place – helps patients maximize their quality of life.

Hypertension, diabetes, cholesterol, hormone imbalances, thyroid disorders, auto-immune disorders and toxin build-up are just some of the conditions that may be addressed through Dr. Cas’ medical wellness pillar.

The Gut as a Gateway

Dr. Cas’ approach to medical wellness is founded on the belief that the gut, or the gastrointestinal (GI) system, is the gateway to how everything in the body operates. The gut is where factors from the outside world, including food, viruses, pesticides, bacteria and more, communicate with the body.

The importance of gut health is increasingly at the forefront of medical research. In fact, scientific studies on the gut-brain connection, and how humans are intimately intertwined with the bacteria in the gut, are one of the most prolific types of studies in medicine today.

Dr. Cas' Approach to Gut Health

When it comes to gut health, inflammation is the key. By mitigating inflammation in the gut, Dr. Cas has helped many patients control and reverse a host of chronic diseases. A PCR stool analysis is one of the primary tools Dr. Cas uses to determine the make-up of patients’ unique gut microbiome, which are the trillions of bacteria and normal flora of the gut, and their functional status, or how optimally the body is working at a cellular level.

Chronic Disease and Medication

Chronic disease has been steadily increasing over the last 70 years, despite the fact that the use of prescription medication is at an all-time high. Each year, billions of dollars are spent on medications to manage preventable illnesses and the complications they create.

There has also been a consistent decline of testosterone in men and more cases of endometriosis and PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) in women. Many times, hormonal issues like these are due to environmental toxins such as mold, heavy metals and pollution. Certain chemicals, like BPA, can also cause hormonal disruption.

Bottom line: Something is going on and it isn’t good. It is going to take a fresh approach to medicine to change the trend of increasing disease and medication use.

A Minimalist and a Realist

Dr. Cas describes himself as a minimalist and a realist in medicine, meaning he strives for the perfect balance between knowing when to prescribe medication and when to implement alternative approaches. He believes offering his patients the best of both worlds is the premise of an effective integrative and functional medicine practice.
