Stem cell and Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) treatments are becoming more and more mainstream, as more providers and more patients become educated about the process and the benefits.

As a functional medicine doctor, I am dedicated to getting to the root cause of my patients’ conditions. And I believe stem cell and PRP treatments can be very helpful tools to help patients reach their health goals. I also believe that by reducing inflammation and optimizing gut and cellular health, patients will see better results with treatments like stem cell and PRP.

A quick look at stem cell and PRP treatments

Stem cell treatment, also known as stem cell therapy or regenerative medicine, uses stem cells to treat various diseases, injuries or conditions. Stem cells are unique because they have the potential to develop into different cell types in the body and can be used to repair or replace damaged or malfunctioning cells and tissues. Stem cell treatment has been explored and used in the treatment of various medical conditions, including blood-related disorders, orthopedic conditions, neurological disorders, autoimmune diseases, heart disease and eye disorders.

PRP treatment involves the extraction and concentration of a patient’s own blood platelets to promote healing and tissue regeneration. Platelets are a type of blood cell that plays a crucial role in the body’s natural healing process. They contain growth factors and proteins that are involved in clotting and tissue repair. PRP therapy is used for various medical and cosmetic purposes, including orthopedic injuries; dermatology and aesthetics, including hair loss; dental and oral surgery; sports medicine; chronic wounds; ophthalmology/eye surgeries.

Patients who are considering stem cell or PRP treatment can optimize their results by taking steps to reduce inflammation and optimize gut and cellular health.

Optimizing gut health

I help my patients reduce gut inflammation and optimize gut health by following the 5Rs:

  1. Remove foods that aggravate the gut.
  2. Replace deficiencies.
  3. Reinoculate good bacteria.
  4. Repair the intestinal lining.
  5. Rebalance stress in your daily life.

You can read more about each step of the 5Rs in my 5 Steps to a Healthy Gut blog post.

Addressing cellular inflammation

Cellular inflammation comes from the breakdown of cellular/mitochondrial function, which occurs as our cells age. When you have cellular dysfunction/inflammation, your body has trouble with proper function and recovery. The top two ways to enhance cellular health are to:

  1. Reduce your toxic burden. We are surrounded by toxins in our environment, including mold, heavy metals and chemicals. These toxins can alter the cellular wall function and communication, which can lead to cell dysfunction and cell death. It is very important to pull these toxins out of your body and replenish vital nutrients. I help my patients accomplish this by using detox methods, natural supplements and peptide therapy. 2. Address micronutrient deficiencies. Micronutrients are the vitamins and minerals that the body requires in trace amounts. Micronutrients have a wide range of important jobs: controlling inflammation, strengthening our immune system, repairing tissue injuries, maintaining bone strength, regulating high blood pressure, and much more. No single type of food contains all of the micronutrients we need, which is why variety in your diet is key. I offer micronutrient testing to identify areas of deficiency, and help my patients develop diet and supplement plans to fit their unique needs. Read more on micronutrients.

Better results, better health

By reducing chronic inflammation and optimizing gut and cellular health, I believe patients experience better outcomes from treatments like stem cell and PRP – not to mention all the other benefits like slowed aging process, less chronic disease and faster recovery!
